Digital Volumes
Description
Our digital volume is the 21st century alternative to the traditional hard copy book. It is organized like a book, and has the familiar "feel" of a book. But, it provides an array of convenient, automated features that make it easy for a reader navigate, browse, search and use the contents. Each edition is custom designed to incorporate the "correct" publication structure, content, media, web interaction and automated features.
Applications
Consider using Digital Volumes in place of traditional paper-based publications for:
- Meeting proceedings
- Books
- Textbooks
- Training manuals
- Collections of journal articles
Features
Intuitive Navigation
Navigating the publication is easy. A Main Menu provides easy access to all content and features, allowing users to intuitively navigate the publication. Larger publications may use a multi-tiered menu to simplify navigation. Anyone who can use a computer and a mouse already will have no problem with navigation.
Convenient Browsing
EIS designs its publications to meet the needs of different types of users. For "the Browser", we offer ways to thumb through the materials, see what's there, and then review selected portions.
Browsing begins with the Main Menu, from which the user can open the Table of Contents or any other of its index lists. Users may open any section by selecting its title from any list. Each list includes a collapsible bookmark to help users quickly locate desired information already indexed.
There is no limit to the number of index lists that can be included in a digital publication, and no restriction on list types. Common index lists include:
- Table of contents
- Author index
- Category, subject or track index
- Schedule or program index (for meeting proceedings)
Powerful Search Features
For "Searchers", EIS offers several automated search features that quickly locate desired content. These automated search features may be used individually or in combination:
Profile Searches
Locate sections in the publication whose title, subject, author(s) or keyword(s) match the defined search criteria.
Full Text Searches
Locate each occurrence of a text string(s) in the publication.Hybrid Searches
Locate specific text strings that satisfy a defined profile search and full text search, simultaneously.Targeted Searches
Specify which portion(s) of the publication will be subject to a search. Targeted Searches are used in conjunction with other types of search.Customized Search and Retrieval Tool
For publications that demand a more robust search capability, we recommend our Customized Search and Retrieval Tool. Customized to meet your particular requirements, the tool offers pull-down selection of unlimited keywords, radio button selection of keywords, and more.
Options
Print Ready Publication
Some users still prefer hard copy publications over digital ones. These users would rather hold it in their hands than see it on the screen.
If you need to satisfy these "paper huggers", EIS can create a print-ready copy of the publication that is contained in a single file, ready for two sided printing. Users can easily create their own hard copy publication by printing this file or sending it to Kinkos for printing.
On Site Recording
If you wish to create a permanent record of your seminars, lectures, presentations and similar events, or include post presentation Q&A or discussion sessions, you may be interested in our on site recording option.
EIS first designs and creates the digital volume with reserved places to add the video files. After the videos have been recorded on site and processed, the digital volume is completed by adding these files.
Each recording captures the speaker's slide presentation and voice-over in compact, high quality video files. EIS only uses video formats and media players that follow commonly accepted technical standards and are in wide use. You will never have to bother with poorly supported, proprietary video software.
Samples
Various samples of web-based publications are available for your review. We invite you to contact us for samples that might match the type of publication of your particular interest, as well as for any further information. Please allow us to be of any assistance.
